Sunday Rotherwick ITW were again hosts as Easams of Frimley were the visitors. Skipper Swift lost the toss and on a scorching sunny day the visitors elected to bat. The innings began in dramatic fashion with opening bowler Adie Turnbull breaking down after 2.2 overs with a hamstring injury and having to be helped from the field. His fellow opener Josh Terry began steadily and finished with the tidy figures of 6-2-17-0 with wicketkeeper Poole spilling Terry’s only chance behind the stumps. Kyle Frost replaced Turnbull and was the first to strike taking the first wicket with the score on 27 thanks to a sharp catch by Vallis at second slip. Frost ended up with figures of 8.4-1-37-1. Swift (7-2-14-0) and Saturday’s hero Cordery (3-1-5-0) tried but were unable to break the second wicket partnership that had taken the score along to 81, it took Lewis Benge precisely 1 ball to do the damage removing the visiting opener, spin twin Greg Ince joined Benge in attacking the Easams middle order, Ince snared his first victim thanks to a running catch by Paul Appleton. Lewis Benge then began to work his way through the middle order taking wickets in his third, fourth and sixth overs. Ince was taking punishment at the other end until he fought back with wickets in his seventh and eighth over to finish with figures of 8-0-72-3 it was left to Benge to complete the innings concluding with a double wicket maiden to finish with his first five wicket haul and career best figures of 9-3-24-6. The home teams innings started positively, after bedding themselves in the score was moved along briskly and another opening partnership of over 50, the score had reached 65 when Steve Guye drove back a sharp chance to Ive (J) off of his first ball, Guye fell for 38 and was quickly followed by opener partner Hooper for 18, Vallis was joined at the crease by Paul Appleton who quickly departed for 1, the mid innings collapse was continued by Poole falling for 6, Swift’s woeful season continuing with another duck and Cordery falling for 2. Josh Terry out of form with the bat for a few weeks joined Vallis, who had continued on his merry way, with the score on 90 for 6 and the innings on a knife edge. Terry dug in and supported Vallis as they steadied the ship and then attempted their assault on the 180 required for victory. The partnership reached and past the half century mark and was on 70 when Terry trying one shot too many was out for a fine 16 with the total on 160 for 7. Lewis Benge joined Vallis and promptly hit his first ball for 4 but the run chase was to end narrowly short as Vallis ended up on a fine 68 not out and Benge 7 not out as the home team finished on 173 for 7 in their valiant chase of 180 to win. An honourable draw keeps up the Sunday teams unbeaten season as they move towards half way through the campaign. A much more positive weekend after last weekends travails.
